Batik – An Identity of Indonesia

Indonesia is a multicultural country which consists of thousand islands and tribes. The differences of demography and geography cause cultural differences, including the outfits worn by each tribe. Batik is one of the outfits that are quite popular, and its popularity has been known worldwide.

If you watch TV and see the President of Indonesia talking in public or in international conferences, you may see him wearing such an ethnic shirt with unique motifs. That is what so called batik, the national clothes of Indonesia citizens.

In some occasions, Indonesian may wear their traditional outfits, such as kebaya, baju kurung, ulos, etc. But when they come to national events, batik talks much. This outfit is a symbol of unity. It is a uniform which is considered as a must. This is a way to show how proud they are to be Indonesia citizens.

Indonesian Batik has been claimed as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity for all the techniques, technology, motif development, and the cultural values needed to make a piece of it. It is because the process includes two factors: coloring techniques and the choice of the motifs. This step is not easy since every motif should have a characteristic.

Indonesian believe that the existence of Batik started in Majapahit era, and increasingly popular in the end of 18th century or he beginning of 19th century. Batik was actually purely handmade, but later on, as the technology has developed, it is mostly printed. What supports this change the most is the amount of orders. The handmade ones do need long time of painting, but the printed ones need shorter time.

Years ago, batik was only worn in formal occasions. At that time, Indonesian tend to choose batik instead of tuxedo or other formal outfits. But today, batik is even worn by students and employees as their uniform in certain days, such as every Friday.

In some families, Batik is even considered as a tradition. It makes them have their own motifs which are different from other families. It is like their identity, since the motifs can even show their economical status. Until now, the traditional motifs are still used by the family of Yogyakarta and Surakarta residence. Batik is probably the most unique outfit you have ever known. Where else you can find that brands do not talk much, but motifs do?

Fun Facts about Shopping Malls

Hello there folks. Right now we are about discuss some stuff about Shopping Malls. And despite the facts that most of living male hate being trapped in a jungle of cleanser, diapers, or underwear, here are some fun facts that i would like to share you about shopping malls:

  • There are 50,000 shopping malls in the United States alone.
  • Women will buy more if they hear their heels clicking on polished hard surfaces, so designers often use hard flooring in hallways. Inside the stores themselves, there is often carpeting or softer surfaces to lure customers in and make them feel at home.
  • Places to sit in the common areas of malls are hard to find. People aren’t shopping when they’re sitting.
  • Escalators are placed strategically to force shoppers to pass the maximum number of storefronts.
  • Most malls have bends and turns as shoppers typically won’t walk towards something that seems more than one tenth of a mile away.
  • Floor plans in malls are disorienting for a reason – so shoppers cannot make a quick exit.
  • The average mall shopper stays for 80 minutes and spends $75 each visit.

And here are fun facts about Mall of America, one of the biggest and the most favorite everyone shopping mall :

  • The Mall of America near Minneapolis, MN has over 500 stores.
  • It does not have a heating system. It relies on the heat from the lighting, the sunroof and all the people.
  • It has its own zip code.
  • It has four Gaps and an amusement park.
  • It draws 40 million visitors each year; more than Disney World, Graceland and the Grand Canyon combined.
  • The Mall of America is an international tourist attraction – more than one third of visitors come from over 150 miles away. Airlines offer travel and shopping package deals to shoppers from Germany, Japan, Switzerland, England and Australia.
  • Only five miles away from the Mall of America is the Southdale mall. It was the first enclosed shopping mall ever, opening less than 50 years ago (October 8, 1956).
  • The world’s largest shopping mall is the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada.

Okay that is all for today, i think I’m going for a lunch before doing something in front of my computer doing stuff that looks like a working. Perhaps solitaire.

Small Guide to Islam Dress Code

Muslim fashion has grown significantly in the past few years, and it is not only just clothing for adults, but fashion for children as well. Here are tips on how you choose the right Muslim fashion dress that is not against the Islam dress code:

First as a Muslim woman by the rules of Islam, clothes aimed at protecting the wearer body from the things that could hurt her, in addition to covering the aurat. That is why Muslim women choose clothes that disguise the loose silhouette.

But wait, what is aurat? For a woman, everything is aurat except face and two palms. Aurat is very closed to sexuality. For instance, when a man see the navel, the thigh, the breast, the buttock or the hair of a woman, the man will surely got excited and his lust will start to control him. And this is what Islam don’t want because when the lust start to control a person, he will surely lost his logic and mind. But there is some questions on about why must women cover their hair? Well, we never know what a person like to see. Sometime a man can get excited by just seeing some hair. So Islam want to take prevention since prevention is better than cure. Logically, why must a women appear sexier to other men rather than her husband? Also, why exposing your body everywhere if you are still a single? In Islam, women are valued highly, and must be treasured wether it is in the family or community.

Second, select an appropriate Muslim dress collection in size so as not to disturb your walking process. Another reason that Islam forbid tight clothes is, a too tight clothes might disrupt your skin breathing process as well as natural body sweating circulation, while a dress that is too big in size is also dangerous because it can be stepped on while walking and cause the wearer to fall

When you choose Muslim dress code, you should not use the double-tight clothes with short sleeves, three-fourth blouse, or tank top. If you choose to wear Islam dress code, choose long sleeves.

Select materials and models that is suitable with your activity. If you are an active person, the best materials for your clothing are those that absorbs sweat fast and cannot easily ruffled, and consists of blouse,or long sleeved shirts, with a trousers. If your activity are less dynamic, the best options are blouse or long sleeved shirts with a long skirt.

Third, pick a headscarf / hijab model which remains your neck unexposed. You don’t have to only look for a Muslim standard hijab. You can also wear a long scarf and create your own hijab wrap. The focus of Muslim fashion is on hijab, so make sure you make a stylish hijab wrap style. Sexy is not a standard in Muslim fashion, but gorgeous.

A different style of hijab wrapping that is suitable with your face shape, and your dress color, could bring the same gorgeous aura with $1000 hair making.

Select clothes that disguise the lack of models of the body to bring your self confidence. For example, a thin person should wear clothing that seemed stacked, and for those who extra size should use lightweight materials.

Remember to stay tuned to fashion world, especially the latest trends of scarves, and long sleeved shirt in order to stay abreast of fashion trends and fashion but still follow the rules of Islam.

Trying to Be “The Next Big Thing” Will Usually End in Failure

A friend of mine has worked at an internet startup that shall remain nameless since 2006. During that time, the company has been unable to actually produce a clear product and has changed direction several times. When I asked him what the culture there was like, he told me that the leader of the business was obsessed with being “the next Facebook” or “the next Twitter” or “the next Google.” He was constantly focused on what these big successes had done.

Some small business management types might tell you that he’s doing a good thing in trying to emulate these big success stories. However, there’s a big difference between emulation of success and jealousy of success – and being on the wrong side of that line can cause a great deal of business problems.

Almost every small businessperson has a business that they admire. I certainly have several businesses that I admire greatly – and, yes, Google is one of them. I respect many aspects of their business and think that by studying them, I can learn quite a lot. Do I want to be “the next Google”? Absolutely not.

I’m going to use Google as an example here because they’re a recent enormous success story and they’re a business that countless people look at with envy. Countless advertising-based search engines have been thrown up by jealous entrepreneurs. All of them have failed to unseat Google.

Businesses succeed when they produce something special, something different than what can already be found out there. Google succeeded because they were able to offer great internet searching for free, and their secret was tying targeted advertising to those search results. If you’re in the search business and you’re striving to be “the next Google” by figuring out new ways to bundle search results and ads, you’re wasting your time. Yahoo is figuring this out the hard way.

What do you offer that stands out? What “secret” do you have that enables you to offer it? That should always be the core of your business. Let’s look at these elements.

What do you offer that stands out? The only way you’re going to achieve the success you want is to offer something that stands out among the competition. If you’re merely going to build a “better” advertising-funded search engine, Google will crush you. You have to offer something different, and when you’re doing that, you’re not merely being “the next Google.”

What “secret” do you have that enables you to offer it? You have a great idea that is going to cause people to beat a path to your door, but unless you have a way to turn those exchanges into something profitable, you’re either going to fail or, if you’re lucky, get bought out.

I’ll use two examples from small businesses in my own area.

One restaurant business succeeds by simply trying to be the best “bistro” style restaurant in a college town. They offer a great meal with very elegant ambience for a reasonable price in an area where there isn’t a large population – and thus not a lot of competition in that niche. How do they make this work if there isn’t a lot of people? They placed the restaurant near the campus and focused directly on reaching out to the college professors in the area, finding out what they wanted and needed from such a bistro. The restaurant looked at the town, identified exactly who would be their primary clientele, and focused entirely on meeting their needs. By doing that, they strongly attracted a particular customer base right off the bat.

Another business, a comic book store, succeeds purely through customer service. They make a very specific point to have all of their employees greet people immediately upon entry, offer to help them with what they want to find, and then leave them alone. However, if you ask for just about anything imaginable there, they will try to find it for you. Their employees are incredibly well-informed about virtually everything sold in the shop and can answer almost any question given to them quickly and correctly. Their prices are higher than what you find online, but they have cultivated such a strong customer base due to their service that they do incredibly well and have opened a second shop.

You can learn from what others have done, but you will never succeed by merely being “the next Google” or whatever business intrigues you. You have to beat your own path. What will you offer that stands out? What is your “secret” that enables you to offer it? Answer those questions first.

What is The Carton Drop Test?

The carton drop test is a quality check that is commonly done in the factory by when performing a QC inspection. The carton drop test is generally only done on full master (shipper) cartons. It is performed by dropping the carton a total of 10 times; first on a corner (the most vulnerable one or one likely to cause damage), then on once on each edge (shortest edge first), and then on each face (smallest face first).

Drop Height: The height from which the carton is dropped should depend on the weight of the carton, although you may modify it if you feel the height is not appropriate for the item that is packaged. See the test standards pasted below in this post.

Post drop inspection: Once all drops have been made, open the carton and examine the product and packaging inside, starting with product that was most near the dropped corner first. Separate any defects and look for suspicious results in regard to how all of your packaging reacted to the drops.

Judging the result: The result is considered a PASS as long as the actual finished goods encased is not damaged. If there is serious damage to the retail packaging or other important packaging inside, you may also consider this a quality issue. It depends on how important you feel the inner box or retail packaging is to your product and how you feel it should stand up to abuse during shipment.
For example if you sre shipping a high-end mp3 player and feel the color box packaging is absolutely integral to the product, damage to the color box as a result of the carton drop test may be considered a test failure.

Adjusting the drop method: For some products which may be considered fragile, or otherwise do not seem suitable for standard carton drop testing, you may adjust the drop method to only dropping on the six sides (eliminating the corner and edges)

NOTE: The intent of the test is not only to determine if poor treatment of the carton during shipping will result in damaged product, but also to determine if the supplier/factory has modified the packaging method in any way or if the shipment perhaps contains sub-standard packaging materials.  For example if you have performed the carton drop test on 3 previous shipments and experienced relatively no damage to the item or packaging, and then find during the current shipment there is major damage to the interior packaging (retail box), this may indicate that the some aspect of the packaging has changed.

History of the Hijab – Exploring Muslim Traditional Dress

According to Islamic scholarship it has a wider meaning of modesty, privacy and morality. It means curtain in Arabic and a meta-physical definition of ‘al-hijab’ is a veil which separates man or the world from God. Hijabs have been a prominent part of Islamic tradition since the 1970s. Opinions as to how the garment should be worn vary from person to person within the Muslim faith.

In the Qur’an the hijab is not referred to as an article of islamic clothing for women or men, rather as a spiritual curtain providing it’s wearer with privacy. The Qur’an instructs male Muslims to talk to the wives of Muhammed only behind a hijab. The issue of modesty within the Qur’an applies to men and women’s gazes, gaits, garments and genitalia. Women are expected to wear jilbabs (cloaks) in public to prevent them from harm. Muslim women are required to wear the hijab in front of any man whom they could theoretically marry. Therefore it does not have to be worn in front of fathers, brothers, grandfathers, uncles or young children. It is also not compulsory to wear the garment in front of another Muslim woman.

Islamic modesty is interpreted uniquely by each practicing individual depending on their specific beliefs. Some women wear full body garments leaving only their eyes visible; whilst others only feel it necessary to cover their hair and cleavage.

The rules of concealment are generally relaxed for elderly women. It is commonly viewed that they are past the prospect of marriage and therefore may lay aside their outer garments. However, they still must not make a wanton display of their beauty.
